The Milltown Police Department serves the Town of Milltown, Indiana. Milltown is located in central southern Indiana and has a population of around 930 people. Located in both Harrison and Crawford Counties, Milltown is well known for its canoeing and natural beauty.

Neighborhood/Block Watch:

Block Watch is a national program that is based on the principle that neighbors working together are the first and best line of defense against crime. Since the Police are unable to cover every neighborhood at all times, you can help by forming a neighborhood Block Watch. You and your neighbors can stay safe by looking out for one another.

Block Watch really just organizes and extends what you are probably already doing on an informal basis. We tend to know and watch out for our closest neighbors, but a group of neighbors at one end of the block who are doing this may not know the group of neighbors at the other end of the block. Organizing a Block Watch makes this attitude of watchfulness more systematic, and provides a block map with neighbors' names and telephone numbers that can be used in case of an emergency.

Block Watch doesn't require you to perform any special tasks, go to a lot of meetings, or take on extra responsibilities. You don't have to patrol the neighborhood, or tell your neighbors every aspect of your business. Block Watch just involves being alert as a part of your everyday life.

All it requires is that you and your neighbors be familiar enough with each other to know who belongs in the neighborhood and who doesn't; which cars are a part of the neighborhood and which aren't; recognize when something suspicious is going on and being a little more observant of changes in your surroundings.

Cadet Program:

The Cadet Program's primary purpose is to bring together law enforcement officers and youth with an interest in law enforcement as a possible career. The  hands-on program is for young men and women, ages 14 - 20. Cadets are taught basic skills from report writing to traffic stops, and how to solve crimes that officers deal with on a day-to-day basis.

In addition, cadets gain a sense of community and dedication. They learn that they can make a positive difference in the world and community around them. Cadets learn traits and skills that will help them become successful men and women, and gain experience that will enrich their entire lives.

Child Safety Restraints:

The Milltown Police Department is committed to child safety and provides free car seat inspections. These inspections help reveal any possible defects in the child seat, point out installation errors, and teach parents how to put in these child seats properly. Motor vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death of children over the age of six months in the United States. When properly installed, child safety seats reduce the risk of death in a motor vehicle crash by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers.

It is the goal of the Milltown Police Department to keep every child traveling in a vehicle safe. An Officer checks to see if there have been manufacturer recalls and inspects the seat to ensure that it is installed in the safest way possible depending on: the type of seat, age and physical size of the child, and type of vehicle.

 Residents will be asked to supply the make and model number of the seat to be inspected and the approximate height and weight of the child. They should also bring the owner’s manual to both their vehicle and the seat they wish to have inspected. If you are a Milltown Resident, and unable to come to the Milltown Police Department due to an illness, injury or you are handicapped, an officer may be able to come to your home to inspect your car seat. Inspections generally take about 15 to 30 minutes.
